“In the name of the Great Spirit, hear me, Elders, Council and Citizens of the Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation,

 

In your sight, and in your hearing, I Gregory J. Sarazin, take up the duties of Chief for the Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation.

 

I solemnly promise and sincerely pledge to fulfil these duties as to the best of my abilities mandated by the Algonquin Peoples.

 

I solemnly promise and sincerely pledge to watch for all dangers and give you fair warning.

 

I solemnly promise and sincerely pledge to proactively lead, initiate and create the opportunity to better enhance the well being of the members of the Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation.

 

I solemnly promise and sincerely pledge to watch for opportunities to strengthen our peoples and to aid in all such efforts.

Elders, Council and Citizens of the Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation, you have heard my promises made.

Chief Sarazin’s responsibilities include leadership oversight, participation in governance processes, and engagement with internal and external partners as required by the role.

Areas of service include:

  • Community representation and leadership

  • Participation in governance and administrative processes

  • Engagement with organizations, agencies, and neighbouring communities

  • Oversight of initiatives and strategic priorities where applicable

All activities are conducted within established protocols and with respect for community governance structures.

Master Birch Bark Canoe Builder - Stanley Sarazin 1936 - 2006

Birch Bark Canoe

Chief Sarazin comes from a family tradition of birch bark canoe building. His father was an accomplished and authentic birch bark canoe builder who passed this traditional knowledge to his children through direct teaching and practice.

Chief Sarazin has continued this work by maintaining the craft and sharing the knowledge through instruction and courses. This ongoing effort supports the preservation of traditional skills and contributes to the continuity of cultural knowledge across generations.
